Has anybody used the new VariMAX trolling motor.

I have a Motorguide on the Bow, but I am searching for a 24volt, 70 lb. for the rear.

thanks

Kelly,

I got a chance to play around with one for a few days last fall ... very nice motor - nice features. I especially liked the handle and how it worked, and being able to easily flip the head for backtrolling was cool.

I too have used them, and they are quite frankly a very well built transom electric with study and well thought out features.  They are actually the nicest transom trolling motors I've ever seen or used.  Tons of power, good battery life and infinite speed options.  I loved the motor.

I just purchased a 40ht verimax.  The cam lock does not line up with the handle (as the manual says it should).  It this normal?  Anybody have a problem with this when assembling the unit.

Thanx in advance

Problem sloved....

I did not put enough torque on the cam lock to fully lock it.  It requires a strong twist.  All is well.  Had the boat/motor out today.  Very happy with it's performance and features.

I was thinking of putting a trolling motor on the back of my 18 foot G3, but was not sure if I should use a troling motor or a kicker.  After reading Gary's post I am going to go ahead and buy the Varimax and use it.  Thanks Gary.

My 40HT does not always shut off.  Been out with the motor half a dozen times.  Twice when I got back to the dock the motor continued to run at a slow speed even when I could hear the off switch click to off.  The only solution was to disconnect the motor from battery.  This happened after being out for a few hours.  But has not happened every time.  Acts like there is some relay stuck and removing power resets the unit.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Hey guys, I have a 55 lb VariMAX and sometimes it will not turn off. I have to disconnect the battery for it to turn off. Even if I turn the handle off, the motor still runs at the same speed that it stuck at. Another problem is that it did not take long and my battery longevity started going WAY down realy fast. If I checked the battery and it read 60%, when I tried to run the motor over 50% the motor would shut off on its own. Then sometimes it would, like it had a mind of its own, change speeds without me turning the handle. At first I thought it was because the handle felt sloppy when it was extended and it turned on its own, but the handle was at 50% and my motor was doing 100%.
I used 6ga wiring and a 50 amp breaker box like the manual says. Any advise guys?

I had a fealing someone was going to tell me that. I thing I just got the one bad one out of the bunch. Everyone else I have talked to that have one do not have too many problems with them and if they do Motor Guide hooks them up with fast and reliable service. I guess it is better to get it done now than during the season.
Thanks for the number Mark, I have been looking for that number for a month and had a hard time finding the right one. Course I am not the greatest internet navigator.
