Tow vehicles
My Tacoma towes my Ranger great. Share your thoughts about your truck and how it towes your boat!
I have an all wheel drive Chevy Express Van pulling a 17' Princecraft. It works great on the slippery weed covered ramps of Lake Saint Clair and the sand ramps up North.
2002 Chevy Tahoe - Like A Rock!!
2005 Yukon-5.3L pulling a 2004 Targa 17-115 Opti, 20mpg without the boat, 16 with the boat, use tow mode while pulling boat, does just great on hills, etc...cruise usually set about 72mph...
2003 Chevy Trail Blazer, 4.2 liter in-line 6 cycle. Unbelievable how well it tows my 19' Sea Nymph. Plenty of power and actually good stopping power considering I don't have trailer brakes. I have never had use the 4-wheel drive for pulling the boat out either. The computer says I get 14 mpg at 60 mph on flat roads. Pretty impressive little thing.

I tow with a '97 GMC 2500, pulls like a tractor and gets -not to bad- gas milage. EFI is a great improvement over TBI with gas V8s.
I too use a Chev Trail Blazer, to pull a 17.5' Aluimnicraft with a 115 Yamaha. Works well.
If you are experianceing problems with your boat in the wind, or while hauling an RV, try a Timbren suspension system. Cheap and easy as well as very effective in takeing out sway. Makes your truck feel rock solid.
2006 F250 SuperDuty 6.0L PowerStroke Diesel w/ custom programming from Spartan Diesel Technologies, and MBRP 4" exhaust to keep the exhaust gas temps low... Can't even tell my 5,000 lbs.+ glass Tracker Targa 2000 (loaded weight on trailer) is there most of the time... The power is incredible, which allows transmission programming to dictate that the engine rarely needs to downshift unless I really get on the throttle (when it does shift it's hard, fast, and smooth with the programming and the Torqueshift tranny), and when I start to brake the tow/haul programming downshifts the engine to assist braking, getting the trailer surge brakes involved and keeping the wear on the truck's brakes to a minimum. I'm getting around 19 mpg's hwy when towing, which is great. The biggest downside is that the truck handles this boat so well that sometimes you almost forget you're towing something.
Ground hog what all that cost? What's your fuel comsumption? I'd love to trick out my 7.3 but it runs and pulls great.
Just under $1,000 total for the programmer and MBRP exhaust. Gained an average of 2-3 mpg all around. Depending on diesel prices, I figured it would pay for itself with fuel savings alone in a matter of a couple years with the miles I put on, not to mention engine/tranny life from improved shifting and performance characteristics.
On a side note, nice to see the price of diesel finally back below the price of regular unleaded where it belongs!
My '04 Yukon (4.8L V-8) pulls my Lund Fisherman 1700 like a dream.
Paul
04 avalanche pulling a tracker 175 targa to mn,wi,live here in chicago no problems towing:-)
i have a 2002 yukon pulling a fisher 18dvfx. very nice truck that i have been more than happy with.
'04 Ford F150, 5.4 litre. '09 Ranger Reata 2050.
Tows like a dream.
04 Expedition 5.4 I did put in a SuperChips and a K&N Air filter. I get 18 mpg without the boat and 14 with the boat up to about 70 mph. Pulls my boat great and doesn't even feel like it is behind me. 07 Lowe FM 185 with a 150 HP Verado.
I have a 2007,F-250, 6 liter diesel. I pull a 21 foot tundra, 225 Opti, 9.9 kicker.
I have the trailer tow brake control. My 250 works just like Grounghog. You set the gain depending on the load. Tow/haul override also. The both work in unison. Really notice the braking. Real neat feature. Suspension is wonderful though super duty.
Mileage is 13 - 15 in the city and about 20 - 22 in the city.
The 250 has a 'limp home' mode in case of failure.
You really cannot go wrong with a diesel. I pull my rig with camping gear up north on trips from 2 - 12 hours.
Only downside if the amount of oil required during a change.
Have you ever noticed the number of Ford tandem axle dump trucks? Not a coincidence. Ford makes a sound super duty truck.
There the only American vehicle manufacture not asking for government assistance, another plus. The other manufactures must downsize also. Recently, our hometown Chrysler/Dodge autoplex was one of the dealerships that had to close. The nearest dealership is 15 miles away. Sad day in American auto industry when Fiat will purchase Chrysler/Dodge. Very sad.
The manner Ford has tended its finances is another indication of sound decisons. I feel confident if my 250 does break down I do not have to worry about finding a dealership. I am a firm believer in service after the fact.
Oh trust me. Ford is definitely asking for assisstance, they're just not showing it. Now they're not as bad as chrysler, but if they don't get help soon, they're gonna have problems. Glad you like your truck though.
'07 Ram 2500 w/a Cummins and Smarty Jr. power, nuff said!!!
Update.. I now tow with an '06 Chev Trailblazer. Awesome for pulling power and pretty good braking for it's size.
Well I am getting a new to me tow vehicle today
2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Crew Cab 4x4 with 5.3. Sweet truck. Getting rid of my 04 Ford Expedition. Too good a deal to pass up.

Nice looking truck Dave. Are you planning on installing a performance chip in it too? I've never used one of them, but am interested in finding out more about the advantages.
David that's a gorgeous truck. Good luck wit 'er!!!!!
Thanks guy's yeah it is a very nice truck
Jack I had put in a chip in my 04 Expedition and they work very well. I will probably do a few things to this one. I highly recommend a K&N air filter for starters. You can get the OEM replacement or get the cold air induction kit and that will boost not only performance but also get you 3-4 mpg better.
I have the chip for my 04 Expedition for sale on Ebay now I will look around for what I will do to the truck and report back here. If anyone has any suggestions please by all means let me know your thoughts.
2006 Dodge Ram Mega Cab with Cummings Diesel. Bad ass truck. Get 22 to 24 mpg non towing and 16 to 18 towing the big Tundra if I don't tromp on it too much. I love my truck.
Gary
WOW GARY!!! Really sounds like you're gettin the best of both worlds. When you say "bad ass" I assume you mean dually and the i6 turbo diesel, I think that that's all cummins makes for dodge.
04 f- 250 superduty no tricks get 18 mpg 5.4 litre use lucas fuel treatment.

2010 Toyota Tundra (with recalls done). I do add a FireStone Spring Assist to the truck - they are inflatable so based on weather I am towing my Tundra, towing a smaller boat, towing my Escavator or not towing I can keep a nice flat attitude for the truck. Great engine by the way - usually 11mph towing my big boat even though it is a gas engine.
99 Chevy Suburban with 350 Vortec. I just can't part with it... pulls the 200 Hawk just fine and will hall anything you want for a week long trip.

Ford F250 SuperDuty 7.3 powerstroke diesel. 18 foot Tundra Walk Through and a over the cab camper. It goes like a freight train. Hills, wind no problem 17mpg
