Keith and/or Gary, I've got a two questions:

1. I just put a PTSv 24v, 80#, 60" on my 17' foot Tracker Targa and will be up grading in the spring to a 20' boat is the 80# too weak on windy days?  Would I have to run my kicker to help and if so will it be hard for the boat to recover on a desired contour trail.?

2. I think I read that Keith as an external transducer on his PTSv, if so could you explain why and where I need to put my transducer if I do the same.

Hope the Holidays find you and yours healthy and happy,

Ron

The 80# thrust should be plenty for either boat on most days - I would say winds up to 15 mph. Most of the time when tracking contours you will be running the motor on about half speed setting anyway, so on those windy days you will have some extra settings to handle more wind. The concern you may have is battery juice. Since the system is a 2 battery, 24 volt system, if you plan on fishing the whole day, might not be a bad idea to put down the kicker, run it on low speed and conserve some juice.

I put a second Lowrance tranducer on my bow mount so that when I am fishing in the bow position I have a unit that is reading directly below me. Especially when using live bait techniques, I can often spot fish below me and then rock the boat back and forth over the fish to keep the bait in their face. On the PTS V the built in transducers are right in the nose, so I just used a hose clamp in the middle of the motor to secure my Lowrance tranducer.

Keith,

Thanks so much for getting back to me so rapidly. Is it true that the Lowarance tranducer will not be interfered with by the PTS tranducers?

By the way I love TNB for all the info I can read up on,

Ron

Thanks for the nice comment on TNB.

I have used a Lowrance Puck transducer on my PTSv bow mounts for years with no problem.
