How to wire DSC to LCX 111
Does anyone know what wires I need to connect to on my LCX 111 to the DSC on my Cobra radio? The wires on the radio are red and black seperate plug. From what I gather from Lowrance manual I need to hook up the yellow TX wire and the black ground that is part of the NEMA 0183?. Is this right? Then I need to turn on the feature in Setup.
Thanks
Thanks Sheldon.
My last question is I should only need the TX or transmit from the 0183 from my 111 going to the radio and the black wire going to the comon ground correct?
My thinking is that the Radio does not have to send any signal back to the 111 only has to recieve one to be able to send the DSC so therefore the Radio is a listening unit only.
Very nice rigging there by the way.
Sheldon,
I need to save your wiring picture to show people who think my boat is high tech!
I am curious on your NMEA 0183.
Have you tried the HDS RS 232 choice and transmit from both ports simultaneously? I only use the NMEA 0183 to my computer and the TR-1 autopilot so I haven’t used a multiplexer.
Bruce,
I try to use NEMA2000 as much as possible when designing marine equipment netwroks. I find it is more of a 'plug and play' interface that has no problems transmitting and receiving on the same node. For computer connections I would recommend the Mareton USB100 which is a USB to NEMA 2000 Gateway.

David,
Working with NMEA0183 you may have to send the ground to the common ground on your boat (-) terminal on your battery to get it to work. In most installations I have done, I use a NEMA 0183 bus bar and ground that to my common ground. I then run all the transmit and receive wires from all the different equipment to each side of the bus bar.
Here is an example of a very neat and complex NEMA 2000 and NMEA 0183 installation with a multiplexer for connection to a computer navigation system. You can see the 0183 bar is vertical just to the right of center.
A good site to find out more information on NMEA installations is panbo.com
