The following is a Press Release from Operation Muskie!:

Operation Muskie Auction

Oak Island, MN – Operation Muskie puts saying “thanks” into action by providing recent combat veterans with the fishing trip of a lifetime on Lake of the Woods. Each year this event pairs a new group of 20 of the world’s most heroic veterans with 10 of the world’s greatest fishing guides for an all-expenses-paid, fully-guided fishing trip for 3 ½ days. Organized by muskie fishing icons Dick Pearson and Doug Johnson, the trip is run out of world-famous Walsh’s Baystore Camp on the Northwest Angle of Minnesota.

An event of this magnitude and importance can only happen through the support of contributors, large and small. To supplement individual and corporate gifts, Operation Muskie has organized an online fund-raising auction. Many people enjoyed participating in the first auction last year, and the 2010 edition looks to be very exciting as well.

Thanks to generous donations, the auction offers a wide variety of great items, including:
Ø Guest star on “Waters & Woods” TV show with John Gillespie and Pete Maina
Ø Resort stays on Lake Vermilion, Lake Koronis, and Lake of the Woods
Ø Fishing trips from many top guides such as Kevin Cochran and Norm Wild
Ø Muskie gear: lures galore, Frabill Big Kahuna nets, and Operation Muskie clothes

The “silent” auction will run from March 9th until April 11th. Bids can be posted at any time, and the highest bid when the auction closes will win that item.

A “live” auction will take place at 7pm on April 14th. This will take place via online chat with an Operation Muskie “auctioneer” calling the items and accepting bids in real time. Be sure mark your calendar for this very entertaining evening!
Please visit www.OperationMuskie.com for more information, and to take part in the auction sending 20 more deserving veterans to Lake of the Woods.

Thanks for efforts on this Mike ... back to top. Such a wonderful event. Had a chance to speak with Jeff Weigand today ... like Michael, a first year participant that continues to help with the event. Jeff is directly involved with reaching out to vets and organizing those who are to be involved. Sounds like he's got a great group lined up again for this coming year's event.

Can't wait to meet another group of great folks.

Pete

It is an awesome cause. Want to keep this up top and in focus ... FYI have a new podcast coming on this event shortly (my far-better  half prepping now), with Doug Johnson, Dick Pearson and awesome dude - veteran-in-attendance last year John Kriesel. Appreciate everyone involved in this in every way.

Got me thinking about this event today as well, as I spoke with Mark Meunier, a veteran I met last year, initially through my website ... had the great pleasure and honor to meet Mark (multiple honors including Purple Hearts) last year around this time, on an ice fishing trip with John Gillespie ... today, we were going over details of doing it again next week. Like John, and all American veterans, Mark is a hero ... and looking forward to spending time again.

Thanks Mike & Kevin.

An update here. We had no ice - so filmed a walleye show on the Fox River with Mark Meunier, Bret Alexander and of course, the Gillesp. We had a great time. Bite was pretty tough, and we actually were able to pull it off with artificials - specifically the Sebile Magic Swimmer ... be a great show actually, and will air this coming weekend on Gillesp's show.... just prior to the upcoming auction.

Looking forward to this weekend's episode, thanks for the support Pete and John!

Just a reminder that the "silent" auction ends this weekend at 11:59pm on Sunday night.
There are over 60 different listings in the silent auction alone, so lots of great stuff to bid on - and much of it is still available at true bargain bid prices!

There are another 20 listings that will be auctioned off next Wednesday, April 14th at 7pm during the "live" online chat auction, including the chance to film an ice fishing or muskie fishing episode of the "Waters and Woods" television show!

Thanks for all of your support!

Thanks so much for heads up on all of this - and your personal efforts with this project Michael!!

Check out the Gillespo show tomorrow morning, as an annoucement on this great event and participation by a veteran hero and hard core angler, Mark Meunier! An awesome dude, as are all (well, not all are dudes) our veteran heroes.
